Vanilla on Top by C.J.Ellison : Review

I first discovered C.J.'s writing through her Vampire Inn series.  It has vamps and shifters.  You know, the good stuff ;).  This is the first contemporary work I have read by her and I have to tell you, I really enjoyed it. I am a complete shifter addict, but I think this may be my favorite of her books so far.

Vanilla on Top (Walk on the Wild Side #1)

Heather Pierce is done being a wallflower, both personally and professionally. Desperate to live a different life for one night, she attends a speed dating event. Maybe here, anonymous unless she chooses otherwise, she can become someone new. When a man way out of her league sits across from her, Heather gathers her courage and takes charge of what she wants, secretly fearing he won’t desire the real person she’s desperate to hide.

Top acquisitions officer and international playboy Tony Carmine is about to close the biggest deal of his career. But then he meets Heather at a speed dating event…and discovers losing control may be exactly what he needs. Her blossoming sensuality occupies his every thought, consuming him with the need to possess the most intriguing lover he’s ever encountered—until he walks into the boardroom and sees Heather on the other side of the negotiating table.

This is the story of two people who basically step out of their comfort zones and find what they did not even realize they were missing in life.  Yes, it has heat and a lot of it, but it is more the story of two people connecting and discovering what they truly want in life.  Both in relationships and in work/life.  Heather and Tony are both likable characters that are easy to relate to.  I was almost wishing this ended with a cliff hanger so there would be more of their story coming in the near future.  While this is an 18 plus read, it does not have any heavy "get your freak on" things that would make it a niche audience.  If you like true love stories with heat and honest connections, this book may be for you.

super nice review, Delphina. The relationships she creates ring so true for me. I especially like the idea that a cliff hanger would have been nice but then, who knows what she has cooking now. good job

I'm not usually into this genre as its pages of sex and no story line, but as I have read C.J's work before I was willing to give it a try. And I am so glad I did. It mimicked real life so well - broken cell phones and all.

Ooo I would have loved it to end on a cliffhanger too! I really liked both characters and would have really liked more time with them. But pretty excited to see what she'll come up with for the next one!
